Convention protesters said this afternoon that the "secret jail" the city has set up for people arrested during the upcoming Democratic National Convention used to house the city's voting machines until the building was declared unfit for the machines.

At a press conference in front of the holding pens the city has built inside a dilapidated warehouse at 38th Avenue and Steele Street, protester Glenn Spagnuolo said the city stored its voting machines there until officials said the building was too hot for the machines and was without a fire sprinkler system. "The city pulled its voting machines from here because the building gets too hot. Yet now they'll put people in there who use those machines to vote," he told a small gathering of reporters. "There are no toilets there. There's no water, no fire suppression. The city should be ashamed. It needs to stop criminalizing protests."

CBS4 News has learned if mass arrests happen at the Democratic Convention, those taken into custody will be jailed in a warehouse owned by the City of Denver. Investigator Rick Sallinger discovered the location and managed to get inside for a look. The newly created lockup is on the northeast side of Denver. Protesters have already given this place a name: "Gitmo on the Platte." Inside are dozens are metal cages. They are made out of chain link fence material and topped by rolls of barbed wire. Each of the fenced areas is about 5 yards by 5 yards and there is a lock on the door. A sign on the wall reads "Warning! Electric stun devices used in this facility."

A few hours after the announcement that Senator Clinton's name would be placed in nomination, someone in the Obama campaign or the DNC, at the behest of the Obama campaign, put out a statement saying that Clinton's name in nomination and the subsequent roll call vote will be " a symbolic gesture" reducing it to something as fake as Obama's ill fated Presidential seal.

By stupidly claiming that Clinton's name in nomination and the ensuing roll call vote will only be a "symbolic gesture", the continuing idiocy of the Obama campaign and the DNC has reached new heights. Or depths.

One would have thought they had learned their lesson but apparently not. It seems once a snake oil salesman always a snake oil salesman and Obama just can't help himself, practically reversing all the good that was accomplished by the earlier statement.

Unless someone at the DNC is able to restore faith that the roll call vote will be authentic, they are on the road now to ensuring themselves of a very ugly convention if people perceive this as a rigged process.

Marc Ambinder in the Atlantic Monthly implied that the vote will be rigged in Obama's favor by making the comment that despite the roll call vote, "Clinton has no chance" at actually getting the nomination. That means either Ambinder has factual information that supports this or he is simply offering a political opinion that flies in the face of every piece of public information available. Since this is a year when a generic Democrat beats a generic Republican by 10 points and Obama can't get out of a tie with John McCain it should be no surprise that all the metrics always favored Clinton as the stronger candidate to begin with.

The only way Clinton would really have "no chance" as Ambinder claims would be if the roll call vote is rigged in Obama's favor with pressure being put on Clinton's pledged delegates to flip or have their credentials stripped, or other such unsavory and underhanded tactics.

Otherwise, if one believes the survey conducted by Politico.com a few days ago ( and apparently Ambinder doesn't) the super delegate tally as of now is Obama 271, Clinton 268 and 160 undecided. That doesn't sound like "no chance" to me.

Maybe it was Obama's megalomania that has caused him and the DNC to try and spin it publicly as a "symbolic gesture". In reality as Heidi Li Feldman has pointed out on her blog, a vote is a vote regardless of how you want to spin it before hand. There is no such thing as a "symbolic vote". Unless, that is, you are rigging the outcome.

And rigging the outcome means things like threatening Clinton delegates with being stripped of their credentials, or attempting to intimidate them if they don't vote for Obama.

The DNC is so bizarrely desperate to have this know nothing empty suit as their nominee and be rid of the Clintons, that they will bend, break, spindle, mutilate and stomp on every DNC rule in the book to make sure there is tape over the mouths of every Clinton delegate and Hillary capitulates and gives up her delegates. Just WHY she's 'going along', I'm sure I just don't know. So she can run in 2012? Probably. Because no matter who wins this absolutely no win election, they are OUT in 2012, and she can step right in like the Cheshire Cat and proudly and honestly say "I freakin' told you so."]

Each year I get to celebrate Independence Day twice. On June 30 I celebrate my independence day, and on July 4 I celebrate America's. This year is special, because it marks the 40th anniversary of my independence.

On June 30, 1968, I escaped Communist Cuba, and a few months later, I was in the United States to stay. That I happened to arrive in Richmond on Thanksgiving Day is just part of the story, but I digress. I've thought a lot about the anniversary this year. The election-year rhetoric has made me think a lot about Cuba and what transpired there. In the late 1950s, most Cubans thought Cuba needed a change, so when a young leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive.

When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him.

They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in.

When he said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, everyone followed.

When he said he would bring justice and equality to all, everyone said, 'Praise the Lord.'

And when the young leader said, 'I will be for change and I'll bring you change,' everyone yelled, 'Viva Fidel!'

But nobody asked about the change, so by the time the executioner's guns went silent, the people's guns had been taken away.

By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed.

By the time everyone received their free education, it was worth nothing.

By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him.

By the time the change was finally implemented, Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status.

By the time the change was over, more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. You can call those who made it ashore anywhere else in the world the most fortunate Cubans. And now I'm back to the beginning of my story.

Luckily, we in America would never fall for a young leader who promised change without asking, what change? How will you carry it out? What will it cost America?

New York magazine's John Heilemann set some alarms off for anyone who fears Wright may still try to find a way to torpedo Barack Obama's chances at winning the presidency with a recent report that briefly noted Wright would publish a new book just weeks before Election Day. The story had Wright going on a national tour to promote the book, too.

It's hard to imagine exactly what Wright could do to get publicity for the book that would top the media circus he set off back in April, but whatever a Wright book tour would look like, it couldn't be helpful. Obama left Wright's former church, Trinity United Church of Christ, in June, after the press hounded him over sermons at the church (including Wright's) for months.

But now it seems there won't be any book this fall. "The only book we're working on is the history of Trinity, and I haven't even started editing that," Wright's daughter, Jeri, told Essence.com's Roland Martin. "Nope. I'm not publishing anything," Jeri Wright quoted her father saying. "I'm not going on any book tours."

By endorsing Obama, all of these Members of Congress went AGAINST the will of their constituents, twice, at the state level and at the district level. Only two members who received money from Pelosi's PAC went against the grain and endorsed Hillary.

(I think we need to find a new name for the Party -- maybe the Obama Thuggery Party will do.)

But the media people seem enthralled that not only will Michelle Obama have a major speaking role at the Convention but so will her brother, Craig Robinson, and Barack Obama's half sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng.

I would like to know what either Craig Robinson or Maya Soetoro-Ng has ever done for the Democratic Party that they should be rewarded in this way.

Is it just all about Barack Obama favoring relatives, his worshipers, and his 'Big Money' contributers?

I think this tells us what an Obama administration would look like -- anyone who does NOT get down on bended knee and worship Barack Obama will be PUNISHED (for example, Rep. Charlie Rangel, who did not get down on bended knee fast enough to suit Obama and whom Obama will NOT allow to speak at the Convention). It is also apparent that Clinton is not being seriously considered as a running mate for Obama.

DENVER, Colorado --- Michelle Obama and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi will be the featured first-night speakers at the Democratic National Convention, which also will include a videotaped message from Massachusetts Sen. Edward Kennedy.

Michelle Obama will be introduced by her brother, Craig Robinson, a former basketball star at Princeton and now coach at Oregon State, on the first night on Aug. 25. Barack Obama's half sister, Maya Soetoro-Ng, also will have a role at the convention.

Other opening night speakers include Denver Mayor John Hickenlooper and Missouri Sen. Claire McCaskill, an early Obama supporter, organizers said Tuesday.

Pelosi will be recognized for helping lead the Democratic Party back to power in Congress, said organizer Jenny Backus. "She was in the vanguard of the movement. She recruited a generation of young leaders," Backus said.

"Both sides agree that it is in the best interest of party unity and making sure that everyone's voice and vote is honored to make sure her name is put into nomination," a person close the negotiations said. "It's to honor everyone who worked so hard on both sides."

The two sides have been jockeying over how to win over Clinton supporters who were bitterly disappointed by her loss and the chance of seeing the first woman to win the presidential nomination of a major political party.

It is also apparent that Clinton is not being seriously considered as a running mate for Obama.

The deal to allow Clinton to be nominated is meant to help mollify those hurt feelings. It was unclear, however, whether the Obama and Clinton will make the announcement jointly or separately.

The details still being worked out, but Clinton's name will be put into nomination at the Denver convention on Wednesday. That will be one day after Clinton addresses the convention.

"This truly was a joint decision," according to the Clinton source. "This wasn't something she was itching for, looking for. But so many of her supporters said it was important to them. And the Obama people got how important it was to smooth over any tensions and that it was the right thing to do."

What also hasn't been settled yet is who will nominate Clinton and whether she will stand up with the New York delegation when they are called on.

What has been settled, however, is that after both Clinton and Obama names are placed into nomination there will be a roll call vote.

What has also been hashed out is that at some point during the convention, Clinton will release her delegates officialy to Obama and that she will make it very clear that she is voting for Obama, the source said.

One more thing...

As of last night, there are still no decisions on whether Chelsea Clinton will speak at the convention, although a Clinton source said, "I wouldn't be surprised if she did" introduce her mother.

That would make the convention a true family affair with Hillary, Bill and Chelsea Clinton all having podium time.

The Illinois state BAIPA would have mandated that any infant who survived an abortion and had been fully expelled from its mother’s body was a legal person entitled to life-saving medical care. To let such an infant simply die would have become a crime. Even Über-choice New York Democrat Jerrold Nadler supported the federal version of BAIPA, saying, “if an abortion is performed, or a natural birth occurred, at any age, [even] three months, and the product of that was living outside the mother, and somebody came and shot him, I don’t think there’s any doubt that person would be prosecuted for murder.”

Obama didn’t see it that way and has long argued that he opposed the Illinois bill because it lacked a “neutrality clause,” or language that would protect legal abortions.

It turns out that’s not true.

The officials said a gunman fired several shots at Mr. Gwatney, a former state legislator, in the party’s headquarters near the Capitol. After a long car chase, the suspect was fatally wounded in a shootout with the police, the authorities said.

Bill Sadler, a spokesman for the Arkansas State Police, identified the suspect as Timothy D. Johnson, 50, of Searcy, Ark. Mr. Gwatney, 48, was rushed to the medical center of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences, but a family friend who asked not to be identified said doctors determined that he was too unstable to undergo surgery. He died several hours later, police officials confirmed.

“We have no indications of motive at this time,” Lt. Terry Hastings of the Little Rock police said at an afternoon news conference.

Shortly before noon, the suspect entered the headquarters and asked to see Mr. Gwatney, Lieutenant Hastings said.

“He walked around an employee, walked in and did meet Mr. Gwatney,” the lieutenant said. “They introduced themselves. At that time, he pulled out a handgun and shot Chairman Gwatney several times. He then turned and left the business.”

Or is it a case of he is simply afraid of the reception she would get and the attention she would garner and would snatch the nomination right away from him. After all, he really didn't earn it in the first place. So better give the 'little woman' the smallest role they possibly can.

“In October, Obama’s former pastor, Wright, will publish a new book and hit the road to promote it.”

This is a huge problem for Obama. It means that the whole controversy over Wright’s racialist sermons and his friendship with Obama is going to be returning to the news agenda just as undecided voters begin to make up their minds.

The Convention Committee never actually put that out, but it's been fairly widely reported (and, in a few cases, corrected).

Clinton "is one of four prime-time headline speakers. We will have a separate keynote speaker," said Jenny Backus, a consultant to the convention. "Stay tuned."

Only a month ago American comedians and satirists were complaining that they found it hard to get people to laugh at the first black presidential nominee. A New Yorker cover cartoon showing him as a Muslim extremist was roundly denounced.

But growing Obama fatigue among voters after his pseudo-presidential visit to Europe and the Middle East has unleashed a wave of satirical fire, mocking Mr Obama for his apparent belief that he has the election in the bag.

Last month Jon Stewart, host of the satirical news programme The Daily Show, had to tell his audience that they were allowed to laugh at Mr Obama after a joke fell flat.

But Mr Stewart made comedic hay during the Illinois Senator's international trip, mocking his progress through the Holy Land, where he said the candidate stopped "in Bethlehem to see the manger where he was born."

Late night comic Jimmy Kimmel also cracked a joke at Mr Obama's expense: "They really love Barack Obama in Germany. He's like a rock star over there. Impressive until you realise that David Hasselhoff is also like a rock star over there."

The jokes are important because they increasingly draw on evidence that voters are tiring of Mr Obama's elevated opinion of himself, the wall to wall coverage of his pronouncements, and the feeling that he should concentrate on voters back home.

A writer with one of the leading comedy shows in the US, who preferred not to be named because of continuing sensitivities about how far comedians should go from some network executives, said: "We had a hard time convincing people that Obama is funny for a long time. Our audiences seemed unsure whether to laugh at him. The first black president is not a gag. But that's changing because he's doing more stuff that's easy to mock and people are more familiar with him."

Too familiar, some say. A poll last week by Pew research found 48 percent of those questioned said they had been hearing too much about the Democratic presidential candidate recently, nearly double the figure for his Republican rival John McCain.

Mr Obama has provided rich fodder for comedians looking to prick his pomposity, predicting that people would look back at his nomination as the moment "when the rise of the oceans began to slow".

He also told Congressmen that his campaign was "the moment . . . that the world is waiting for".

The attitude was summed up by Dana Milbank, the Washington Post's resident political humourist, who declared: "Barack Obama has long been his party's presumptive nominee. Now he's becoming its presumptuous nominee."

Mr Letterman listed top ten signs that Barack Obama is overconfident, which included "Offered Bush 20 bucks for the 'Mission Accomplished' banner" and "Having head measured for Mount Rushmore."

Mr Obama is also under fire for moving politically towards the centre ground, moderating positions he had once boasted were evidence of his unique appeal.

Jay Leno, of the long-running Tonight Show, said: "Barack Obama now says he's open to offshore oil drilling. So, apparently, when he promised change, he was talking about his mind."

Granted, only a qualified mental health diagnostician can determine whether someone suffers from Narcissistic Personality Disorder (NPD) and this, following lengthy tests and personal interviews. But, in the absence of access to Barack Obama, one has to rely on his overt performance and on testimonies by his closest, nearest and dearest.

Narcissistic leaders are nefarious and their effects pernicious. They are subtle, refined, socially-adept, manipulative, possessed of thespian skills, and convincing. Both types equally lack empathy and are ruthless and relentless or driven.

Perhaps it is time to require each candidate to high office in the USA to submit to a rigorous physical and mental checkup with the results made public.

Everyone agrees on the basic facts of Obama's biography. But not everyone emphasizes the same points. In his speeches, Obama talks about his Chicago organizing days much more than his two years at Occidental College in Los Angeles. He mentions growing up in Hawaii more than he discusses his childhood in Indonesia. Some of that is just good storytelling. But some of it is deliberately curatorial. Obama visited his grandparents' home in Kansas during the campaign, for example, but friends from Harvard were discouraged from talking to the press. Despite his accomplishments at Harvard, Obama doesn't mention them once in the speeches archived on his Web site (although they are featured in his online biography). Likewise, the campaign rarely discusses his time working at a law firm in Chicago before entering the Illinois Senate.

Some Democrats are beginning to feel pangs of remorse over the candidacy of Barack Obama as they head to Denver. The presumptive nominee appears to be fully capable of snatching defeat out of the jaws of certain victory. Despite heroic efforts by the mainstream media to resuscitate Obama’s candidacy after he was battered by Clinton in the closing series of primaries, Obama is flat lining in the polls. This is not supposed to be happening. Conventional wisdom held that 2008 was supposed to be a Democratic year. How can this sudden reversal of fortune be explained?

Rank and file, blue collar workers seem to be resistant to Obama’s oratorical charms. Some voters find his angry and scary wife to be the political equivalent of the obnoxious reality television personality Omarosa Manigault-Stallworth.

Watch for the former Michelle Robinson to undergo an extreme makeover in the weeks leading up to the convention. More important, however, are the nagging questions that continue to be asked about Obama’s background and his career experience. Is he qualified to lead this great nation through trying times? Who exactly is this guy and where did he come from?

The Obama campaign is now plagued by his best selling utobiographical books. These exercises in mixing fact, fancy and unadulterated fiction would be problematic if simply available in print to opposition researchers, but, adding to Obama’s woes is the fact that he opted to record audio versions of the same two volumes. Americans can now listen to the presumptive nominee celebrating his enthusiastic drug use, delivering inflammatory rhetoric and reciting a string of racial slurs and profanities in his own voice.

Watching Obama’s flailing efforts to reinvent and market himself, reminded me of an enjoyable film adaptation of a stage play that I saw at the Lake Theater in Oak Park more than a decade ago. In “Six Degrees of Separation,” a charming black street hustler inveigles his way into the luxury high rise of a wealthy New York art dealer and his wife. He gained entry by claiming to be acquainted with their adult children who were in his class at Harvard. He sought the assistance of his friends’ parents because he had been mugged and stabbed in nearby Central Park. As the criminal had made off with all of his money, credit cards and personal identification, he asked the couple to shelter him until morning when he could safely check into the exclusive Sherry Netherlands Hotel. He explained that his wealthy father would arrive in the city tomorrow and he made plans to meet his son at the hotel. After bandaging his superficial wound, the stranger and his hosts ended up sharing a meal together.

In short order, the two sophisticated white liberals are delighted by the highly articulate young man, who claims to be the son of the celebrated film actor and director, Sidney Poiter. Another dinner guest is a mining executive from South Africa. This guilt ridden individual has remained on in Johannesburg in order to help educate and train his former employees. He asserts that it is his historical duty to help raise political consciousness among the laboring masses in post apartheid South Africa so that someday the blacks will be able to stage a successful revolution and kill him and other whites in the process. Naturally enough, this naïve character is equally impressed with “Paul Poiter“ and is eager to learn more about his thesis interpreting the J. D. Salinger novel, The Catcher in the Rye. Regrettably, the manuscript is unavailable (not unlike Obama’s undocumented legal scholarship) since the literate mugger stole the only typewritten copy during the robbery.

Early the next morning, the art dealer and his wife learn that their house guest is merely an accomplished con artist. He never attended Harvard and does not know their children. He obtained the details for improving his conversational skills and dropping the right names at opportune moments by enlisting the help of a former boarding school classmate of the children.

Armed with a personal telephone directory, stolen from the gay student‘s Boston apartment, the hoaxer set out to conquer Manhattan. After making further inquiries, the couple learns that other members of their social set have been similarly deceived under virtually identical circumstances by the young man who appeared on their respective doorsteps claiming to have been robbed and left penniless on the streets of New York.

Truth be told, we know more about this trickster’s true origins then we do of Barack Obama’s dubious paternity, childhood and religious upbringing.

Obama, himself, has described the details of his biological father’s putative marriage to Stanley Ann Dunham as being “murky.” Obama has inflated his father’s meager bureaucratic accomplishments while sanitizing his alcoholism, child neglect and serial philandering. In reality, Barack Obama Senior had multiple children by a variety of women and died as the result of one of his many drunk driving episodes. It is messy and sordid tale that has been reported upon in Europe while being largely ignored in the United States.

Given his origins is it any wonder that Obama seems alternately confused and given to grandiose boasting about his imaginary achievements? Has any other major party ever sought to nominate a candidate who sought the presidency as a means of resolving his personal identity crisis?

The late Thomas F. Eagleton, the former US Senator from Missouri, chosen by the 1972 Democratic presidential nominee, US Senator George S. McGovern, of South Dakota, to serve as his vice presidential running mate, had to resign from the ticket after less than three weeks due to published reports concerning his undergoing shock treatments as therapy for clinical depression. Eagleton’s mental and physical health issues seem to pale in comparison to those of the present presidential candidate who has constantly struggled to come to terms with who he actually is.

Things have gotten so bad that some Democratic activists are plotting to put Hillary Clinton’s name in nomination as a last ditch measure. After months of discussing his mathematical inevitability, Obama failed to secure a majority of the delegates required to win the nomination outright. After belittling Clinton’s prospects, which would have required the support of the super delegates, Obama finds himself needing those same super delegates to put him over the top. He cannot win without their support as Clinton has not released her pledged delegates. Clinton is unlikely to prevail belatedly, but the rumors are nonetheless injurious to Obama.

“Six Degrees of Separation” adroitly mixed comedy and tragedy with incisive social commentary. One of the characters, the art dealer’s wife, Louisa, still harbors hope that she can forge a relationship with the con artist who claimed to be Poiter‘s son. She comforts herself with the egalitarian belief that all people are the same and that everyone on earth is separated by no more than six degrees from everyone else. She vainly holds onto this notion despite all evidence to the contrary that the street hustler is actually a petty criminal who fooled her and all of her friends. As a reflexive liberal, Louisa is not unlike the uninformed masses of people who believe in Barack Obama absent any proof of any concrete accomplishments on his part. As a legislator, he accomplished nothing. As an attorney, he has never tried a case to a verdict.

If we were able to identify the six persons in closest proximity to the candidate in order to better understand Obama, who would they be? Possibly, William Ayers, Rod Blagojevich, Emil Jones, Tony Rezko, Todd Stroger and Jeremiah Wright.

If you are seeking genuine political change and desired reform, why on earth would you look to the Cook County Democratic Machine to deliver a knight in shining armor?

Sacha Millstone of Boulder told CALL7 Investigator John Ferrugia that her comments were critical, but they were not public.

Millstone acknowledged she was frustrated over how the Obama campaign was treating delegates who supported Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton and told a fellow delegate, in what she believed was a private e-mail exchange, that she was not sure she could vote for Obama at the Democratic National Convention later this month.

The other delegate apparently filed a complaint with the state Democratic Party suggesting Millstone lose her status as a delegate.

Apparently the Political Director of Colorado's Democratic Party, William Compton, took the suggestion very seriously and told Millstone via e-mail, "You are directed to come in to the Party Headquarters and explain your comments and why you should remain a national delegate..."

Millstone, who worked on the campaign for Hillary Clinton, considered the e-mail a threat.

"I think that one of the reasons I got this letter was to intimidate me," said Millstone. "It sounded very totalitarian. I thought it sounded undemocratic and I was completely shocked."

Millstone continued, "Having conversations on the pros and cons of those candidates, I don't think this is an unusual thing at all in the Democratic Party."

"Anytime we receive a complaint, we are required by our rules to hear that complaint and decide whether or not it should be taken to the rules committee," said Pat Waak, chair of the Colorado Democratic Party.

Ferrugia asked Waak, "If someone brings you private correspondence, you'll use that in investigating a complaint?"

Waak responded, "We have used documents, memos, other things in the past where complaints have been filed. We have used whatever comes to us. That does not mean it goes to the rules committee."

Waak said the investigation and e-mail from Compton was not made public by the Colorado Democratic Party and regrets that it is in the public domain.

She also said, "I do think there are some delegates, on both sides, with some wounded feelings because this has been a very difficult, hard fought campaign."

About Millstone, Waak told 7NEWS, "From our point, it's over with. She's chosen not to come in and talk with us and so, we're two weeks away from the convention and we'll continue to work with the delegates who want to be worked with."

Millstone firmly believed the e-mail from Compton was a clear message to Clinton delegates nationwide to refrain from critical comments of Obama if they wish to attend the convention.

"I think that it was calculated to have an impact on other delegates and I think this kind of communication does have a very chilling impact on other delegates because people become afraid to speak up. They become afraid to say what they think."

Millstone added, "You can't get unity by telling people to shut up."

To show his own dedication, Edwards “created a tax-exempt nonprofit dedicated to fighting poverty”, reported the New York Times. Except:

While Mr. Edwards said the organization’s purpose was “making the eradication of poverty the cause of this generation,” its federal filings say it financed “retreats and seminars” with foreign policy experts on Iraq and national security issues. Unlike the scholarship charity, donations to it were not tax deductible, and, significantly, it did not have to disclose its donors—as political action committees and other political fund-raising vehicles do—and there were no limits on the size of individual donations.

In other words, the Center may have done some good, but its primary purpose was to serve as a vehicle for Edwards’ political career. Indeed, it appears to be very similar to the bogus “Reform Institute” that John McCain set up after his defeat to George W. Bush in 2000, and which was designed to keep alive his presidential ambitions and reward his cronies.

Edwards of course lost his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination this year, and guess what happened to his big anti-poverty initiative? That’s right–it appears he pulled the plug on it.

About a week before Edwards acknowledged having an affair with Rielle Hunter, Edwards quietly shut down a “scholarship program he started at an Eastern North Carolina high school–a program he once promised would be a model for the nation under an Edwards presidency,” reports the [ Raleigh News Observer ]:

Edwards’ presidential hopes have evaporated. And he recently informed Greene County officials that he would end the pilot program at Greene Central High School. “We sent a communication out to upcoming seniors and their parents,” said Randy Bledsoe, principal of Greene Central High. “Some are saddened that the opportunity is not going to be there for their children. But we’ve had a lot of positive reaction over the years.”

Edwards started the “College for Everyone” pilot program at Greene Central High in 2005, shortly after he was the Democratic vice presidential nominee. It was a privately funded effort designed to increase the number of students at a rural high school who attend college. The program provided the cost of tuition, fees and books at a public college for one year. In exchange, students had to work at least 10 hours a week while in college, take college preparatory courses in high school and stay out of trouble.

But now Edwards is no longer a presidential candidate, and with revelation of his affair, his political career is probably over as well. And no more College for Everyone. And incidentally, it doesn’t look like Edwards’ Center for Promise and Opportunity Foundation did any other notable anti-poverty work, and the group itself appears to be largely defunct. The foundation has no website, and, after examining tax records, my colleague Sebastian Jones determined that it was largely indistinguishable from the College for Everyone program.

One particular Letter to the Editor makes some vital points, and asks an important question not before asked: Does polygamy protect Barack Obama’s status as a natural born US citizen? According to the writer, “Obama Is a Natural Born US citizen, regardless of place of birth, because his parent’s marriage was invalid. The problem comes down to the validity of Obama’s parent’s marriage. When he was 18, Barack Obama Sr. married a woman named Kezia and had four children with her. Two of them later returned to Kenya from the United States. He never divorced her. In the US, polygamy is illegal. If you are already married, regardless of where you got married, all subsequent marriages are invalid. This is the case with the marriage of Stanley Ann Dunham and Barack Obama Sr. in February 1961. Barak Obama Jr. was born out of wedlock. As a child born out of wedlock, a different citizenship law is applied.”

The writer went on to explain: “The U.S. citizen parent, and the foreign parent must be married. The actual law pertaining to this issue can be found here .”

The writer then provided this US law:

7 FAM 1133.4-3 Birth Out of Wedlock to American Mother (TL:CON-68; 04-01-1998) a. Section 309 (c) INA: A child born abroad out of wedlock after December 24, 1952, to a U.S. citizen mother acquires U.S. citizenship if the mother was physically present continuously for 1 year in the United States or its outlying possessions at any time prior to the child’s birth.

If the writer is correct, the above law may supercede the law that was in effect at the time of Barak Obama’s birth in 1961 to an 18 year old mother (below), and he is legally qualified to hold the office of President.

Here is the law per FindLaw.com that applied at the time of his birth—if his parents were legally married:

4. December 24, 1952 to November 13, 1986: If only one parent was a U.S. citizen at the time of your birth, that parent must have resided in the United States for at least ten years, at least five of which had to be after the age of 16.

If the above law is found to be the correct law applying at the time of the birth of Barak Obama, he is legally not qualified to hold the office of President.

Which of the two laws applied at the time of his birth?

If his parents were not married at the time of his birth, then Barak is qualified under then-current law to hold the office of President.

If his parents were married at the time of his birth, then Barak is not qualified under then-current law to hold the office of President. Also, according to all research so far tendered, the law at the time of his birth is the only law that applies in this case.

Democrats who supported Clinton's candidacy pushed to amend the new party platform so that caucuses would be banned in future presidential nominating contests.

But the party's platform committee refused to allow the amendment to come up for a vote or even a discussion. Co-chair Patricia Madrid, a former New Mexico attorney general, said the matter would instead be taken up at later date by the party's Rules Committee.

That left Clinton supporters disappointed. They contend that if the party were serious about enfranchising more voters, it would take a clear position against a caucus system that discourages participation by shift workers, the disabled and overseas members of the military. In traditional primaries, people have all day to vote. But a caucus might last just a few hours.

We have Obama claiming the tax on gasoline is nothing, he claims we are being pandered to by McCain and Hillary who want to give us this break.

We heard Obama representatives say that Florida and Michigan should not get full votes during the primaries, when giving them full votes would have made Hillary the Democratic nominee. However, the new law did not preempt the former law in the cases of those born between the above listed dates when the old law was in effect.

Therefore, Senator Obama may very well be disqualified as the Democratic candidate in the upcoming Presidential campaign.

Presidential office requires the person elected to be a natural-born United States citizen if the child was not born to two US citizen parents.

US Law very clearly stipulates: “If only one parent was a US citizen at the time of your birth, that parent must have resided in the United States for at least ten years, at least five of which had to be after the age of 16.”

Barack Obama’s father was not a US citizen, and Obama’s mother was only 18 when he was born, which means although she had been a US citizen for 10 years, his mother fails the test for being so for at least 5 years prior to Barack Obama’s birth.

In order for her child to have been a natural-born US citizen, his mother would have had to be 21 at the time of his birth.

In essence, Mrs. Obama was not old enough to qualify her son for automatic US citizenship.

His mother would have needed to have been 16+5 = 21 years old at the time of Barack Obama’s birth for him to have been a natural-born citizen.

Barack Obama instead should have been naturalized, but even then, that would still disqualify him from holding the office of President under current law. At best, Barack Obama is only a naturalized US citizen.

This is an issue that must be clarified before the election.

Naturalized citizens are ineligible to hold the office of President as is the case with Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Barack Obama was sent back to Hawaii at age 10, all the other information does not matter because his mother is the one who needed to have been a US citizen for at least 10 years prior to his birth on August 4, 1961, with 5 of those years being after she became age 16.

If Obama were elected President without being a natural-born US citizen, it would set precedence that would enable Governor Schwarzenegger and other naturalized US citizens to also run for President.

The primary season ended with a narrow Obama victory -- and a wounded, but supposedly wiser, Democratic candidate.

Not quite. Without evidence, he unwisely has claimed his opponents("they") will play the race card against poor him. In contrast, on the hot-button issue of racial reparations, he recently played to cheering minority audiences by cryptically suggesting that the government must "not just . . . offer words, but offer deeds." He later clarified that he didn't mean cash grants, but his initial words were awfully vague.

Second, many are beginning to notice how a Saint Obama talks down to them. We American yokels can't speak French or Spanish. We eat too much. Our cars are too big, our houses either overheated or overcooled. And we don't even put enough air in our car tires. In contrast, a lean, hip Obama promises to still the rising seas and cool down the planet, assuring adoring Germans that he is a citizen of the world.

Third, Obama knows that all doctrinaire liberals must tack rightward in the general election. But due to his inexperience, he's doing it in far clumsier fashion than any triangulating candidate in memory.

Do we know -- does Obama even know? -- what he really feels about drilling off our coasts, tapping the strategic petroleum reserve, NAFTA, faith-based initiatives, campaign financing, the FISA surveillance laws, town-hall debates with McCain, Iran, the surge, timetables for Iraq pullouts, gun control or capital punishment?

We pray to God that the Democratic Party or what's left of it, sees the err of their ways before convention end and nominates Hillary Clinton for President of The United States, being the only candidate who is qualified to occupy this office. Hillary Clinton supporters will march through Denver during the Democratic National Convention to show appreciation for the New York senator's historic primary run and urge the party to place her name in nomination.

The city issued a permit Tuesday to Colorado Women Count/Women Vote for a parade on Aug. 26 - the 88th anniversary of women's suffrage and the date Clinton is rumored to be speaking at the DNC.

[Ed. Note:] Seems Hillary may or may not show. And the worst part, in this web sites' opinion, is there will be no criticizing of NOBAMA, all sunnshine and roses, to keep the Convention positive and keep that outward appearance of Kumbaya, even though it's anything BUT.

This story was seen on Talk Left, and it's our opinion that their last paragrpah to this story just stinks and reeks of follow the party line and party ass kissing. Maybe they got one of those plum spots as an 'official' blog of the convention. Who knows? Here's their last paragaph--

The Muslim-outreach coordinator to the presidential campaign of Barack Obama has resigned amid questions about his involvement in an Islamic investment fund and various Islamic groups.

Chicago lawyer Mazen Asbahi, who was appointed volunteer national coordinator for Muslim American affairs by the Obama campaign on July 26, stepped down Monday after an Internet newsletter wrote about his brief stint on the fund's board, which also included a fundamentalist imam.

Bill Clinton Insists, 'I Am Not a Racist,'
In his first broadcast interview since his wife dropped out of the Democratic presidential race, former President Bill Clinton said he still has regrets, and insisted he's "not a racist,".

"There are things that I wish I'd urged her to do. Things I wish I'd said. Things I wish I hadn't said.

"But I am not a racist," he continued. "I've never made a racist comment and I never attacked him [Obama] personally."

Blog Shutdowns: Spam Attack from IPs Assigned to barackobama.com
The other day Sitemeter attacked Internet Explorer and shut down quite a few sites. Today, there is another report on Blog Shutdowns from Death By A 1000 Papercuts. Here is what they had to say:

At least one of the attacks in the latest wave of blog shutdowns this past week came from IPs assigned to barackobama.com.

This leaves us with an unanswered question. Who or what caused the “malfunction” in Sitemeter?

But then a number of liberal blogs and Instapundit claim there is no connection to the Obama canpaign and the latest wave of blog shutdowns. This is patently untrue in at least one case now.

We came across this post by MacRanger at MacsMind [MacsMind Hacking UPDATE] yesterday, where Mac presents “one fact that can’t be explained away”.

On July 22-25 Macsmind was DOS’d (Denial of Service) that originated from three IP addresses that are assigned to Barack Obama’s website. This isn’t a theory but was confirmed via law enforcement through an inspection of the site logs from those dates. The IP address in question; 66.39.4.254 66.39.143.229 216.146.206.181, are all registered via “Go Daddy” under the name barackobama.com.

On those dates, beginning at At 5:48PM Central on the 22nd, the hosted server that contained our site was hit by a 1.6 gigabyte flood of illegitimate traffic. The attacks never abated and only stopped when our host provider took us off line.

Spam traffic originating from three IPs assigned to the barackobama.com would seem to be compelling evidence to the disinterested reader. We haven’t been able to reach MacRanger yet, but the real question isn’t “Is the Obama camp involved in this?”

It’s “Will this story be publicized?”

Speculation is one thing, but facts are another. This time however we’ve taken protective measures to prevent this from happening again. Additionally the investigation will continue and appropriate interstate authorities have been notified.

Here is a comment from a user of MacsMind and other sites like Atlas Shrugged. Here is what was said:

We know this attack was on Sitemeter users. But the above instance from MacsMind can’t be explained away, so easily!

Texas Hill Country has this take on the attacks:

“Translation: People using computers at the Barack Obama Campaign are using them to systematically hack, attack and shut down websites that don’t agree with him. This is so messed up. It’s some Orewellian type business and it’s stuff like this that makes Obama scary as hell…”

I am no computer geek and new to blogging. As a matter of fact I hunt and peck to type….but I had to give pause to this case of blog shutdown. Since when do campaigns attempt to shutter free speech! Obama who has claimed to be a Constitutional Law Professor at the University of Chicago in the past, actually a “lecturer”, now appears to be trampling on that same Constitution in this case.

I lived in this country during the 1990s. I knew the Clintons. I grew up worshipping Bill Clinton, that Bubba from a place called Hope with an affinity for Big Macs and a little bit of "soul" in his soul. Always having been precocious, I knew what he had done—and I didn’t like it. I didn't forgive him for it and I don't to this day, but that isn't my job and never has been. Bill Clinton never needed redemption from me; he got it from the only people who had any right to offer it to him. Chelsea and Hillary Rodham Clinton evidently did just that and I stand by 'em for it. If I had any reason at all to be upset, he was absolved by the good work he had done throughout his years in Office. Millions of new jobs created throughout this country. Millions raised from poverty to hallowed middle-class status. Even with the battles he couldn't win - like the Defense of Marriage Act, which he abhorred but that prevented the passage of a Federal Gay-Marriage Ban; like Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell that as best it could prevented an outright ban of gays and lesbians in the military—things were a little better, positive steps in positive directions had been taken. In that decade, it was good to be alive in America. And it was my party that had made it so.

I don't know where that Party is today. I can't find the path to the Third Way anymore. I remember that Way. It was innovative and new, and compassionate. It made sense in a time very different from when the last Democrat reigned. The Third Way works to build inclusive, multiethnic societies based on common allegiance to democratic values.” It made sense, doing great things the democratically. I don’t just remember the Way, I remember the man who led it.

I remember the man who cried as those around him struggled and deigned to share their struggles with him. I remember the President who apologized for the Tuskegee Experiment and asked that those still standing in its wake found it in their battered hearts to forgive a nation whose morality once stood so terribly bigoted. I remember the man who helped to re-enact the March on Selma because it meant so much to him. I remember a President who walked into Office on day one ready to lead, only to be stabbed in the back by the very people that brought him - but he soldiered on. That was the Way I was a part of, the Way that "embraces 'tolerant traditionalism' honoring traditional moral and family values while resisting attempts to impose them on others." There was no battle too small to undertake, no cause unworthy of effort or tears, nobody left behind. Anybody who "worked hard and played by the rules" got ahead, because no way was William Jefferson Clinton going to leave them in the dust. There it goes again, my party. Don't know where that is now.

I think I was born a Democrat. I was brought up wrinkling my nose and gagging at the word "Republican", so I know I wasn't one of those. I didn't really understand what an Independent was so chances are good I wasn't that either. All that was left in my head was Democrat. Bill Clinton was a Democrat and I liked him, so I picked that. When it came time for me to vote, I still picked that. What I didn't know when I came up to bat was how far from the ideal the rest of the body had fallen. I'd been spoiled for eight years - and tormented for another seven. I was blind to it until I started to listen; then I found that my President filled with soul wasn’t the rule but the exception to the rule. My life, which was so bettered by his presence in the White House, didn't really matter at all. My vote, which moved to send him back there at the behest of his frankly brilliant and wonkish wife, didn’t really matter either. What I wanted—what I needed, the Third Way, was really just a movement of a few devoted people who desired to change the world. I hadn’t known that the letter D they carried after their names signified an organization of men and women devoted to doing the very opposite—not changing a thing. And to accomplish their mission, they would destroy my ideal; they would destroy my hero. Can you believe it? That was my party.

They did the impossible. They sapped the “soul” out of the man from Hope. They quieted his raucous laugh. They besmirched his empathetic tears. They made a fool out of the Third Way—and, by extension, a fool of me. I had never been called a fool before of all the insults that have been leveled at me in life. I had never been belittled for my gender as much as the color my skin. I had never been called stupid for having the audacity to believe. I’ve been called cynical and racist for doing what anyone with a third of the self-awareness could do: I voted! My life’s philosophy and love of people has been referred to as Republican chicanery. I have lived here all along and yet suddenly, in my own party, I am the intruder; I am the interloper. I’m the one who doesn’t belong.

It didn’t take an insult to lose me. It hurt, don’t misunderstand, but such is life. Sticks and stones can cut me, but words can only make me cry. I could only cry for so long before the hurt became fury. I wanted answers, I wanted accountability. I got a lie for question and laughter for my effort. I couldn’t live in a place like that. That was the Democratic Party, suddenly, a place where those who’d given their hard-earned dollars and their time were of no consequence. It should’ve been obvious. If the only two-term Democratic President since Franklin Delano Roosevelt was fair game to be scorned, I should’ve battened down the hatches at first dawn. I hadn’t learned the right lesson yet. I get it now.

Hope is merchandise to be sold, not a place, or a man to be believed in. Hope is the not the look in the eyes of a woman with the answers. It’s the speech on a teleprompter of a man without them. Change was not the peaceful transition from the last Democratic decade of the 20th century to the first Democratic decade of the 21st century. It’s the silent strained pretend of a meeting on May 31st set to derail the course of history—and not for the good. Change isn’t watching relief come in the form of a woman with roots everywhere she sets foot raising her right hand to accept the hardest job in the world. It’s watching more of the same thing we’ve always had.

I’ve come to realize that being a Democrat nowadays means accepting these realities with no complaint. I can no longer do that and sleep at night. I can no longer spy echoes of the Third Way without a wistful sigh. I can no longer be quiet while we pretend that the best days gone by weren’t the best at all. I haven’t lived long, but I’ve lived smart. I still believe in the truth, a principle long since abandoned by progressives. What I want to see is the truth spoken out loud again and not treated like a scandal, even if it is scandalous. I want History to stop being a four-letter word. I want respect to be a necessity again, not a luxury. But most of all, I want the Third Way back.

Happiness, which the Democrats seem to have come into the business of supplying, is not a political platform. One can’t govern for the sake of happiness. This isn’t a “Brave New World.” It can’t be, not when so many people have reason to be afraid. They’re at risk everyday of losing the things they love. They may lose their home, their car, their job, even their life. This is the world they live in, not the good old days when the Third Way ruled the roost. This is the reality the new Democratic Party chose; it wasn’t brave at all.

I don’t know who these men and women are, that masquerade about, pretending they are allies of working folks while selling their jobs over the farthest sea. I recognize the duplicity, but not the perpetrators. The Democrats cannot govern as simply another variation on corrupt. It’s time to remember people like me who’ve worked their hearts out, people like me who always will. If they choose to forget us they will have become every bit the thing they purport to despise: Republicans.

They’ve lost sight of the path that led to prosperity for all, themselves included. They’ve forgotten that the ballots that decide their fates don’t stand alone, but are connected and bound to people who are counting on them to sweat and bleed for a better day in America. They’ve chosen the glamorous path and eschewed compassion entirely. They threw the baby out with the bathwater; the future out with the past; and the “little people” out with the Big Dawg.

I don’t know what’s left huddling under the Big Tent that used to be my home. The political trail I’ve lived my life by doesn’t lead there anymore. More and more, I find my old friends blazing the trail with me, but they’re a little lost too. They still remember the Third Way paved with silver quickly turning to gold. They still remember a place called Hope, and they want to go back; if only they could remember how.

Who better to guide us than the man who hails from there himsel
